Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine 51 sees key shapes which reflect a new confidence emerging within the wearer. The designs have been created for ease of movement and casual freedom giving a relaxed, summery vibe. The fun element is injected with a return to the retro resort styles where pattern and colour explode. The season is mainly understated, where nothing is outrageous. Rowan is promoting two stories Artisan and Riviera to reflect these trends. Essentials is the showcase for the key shapes of the season but translated into more simplified, easy to wear styles that will compliment the season's essential looks.
View the designs in Magazine 50 and also access our members exclusive digital edition, as well as a video of the season's collection. Autumn Winter 2011 is set to be the season of total knits, with heavily layered looks contrasting with ultra feminine and elegant shapes. Chunky, natural, soft wool and alpaca blends feature alongside beautiful colour rich wool twists and silk and mohair blends, hinting of floral and alpine inspiration.
This is the season of the ‘cosy’ knit, the ‘wrap up against the elements’ knit, sweaters that ‘cocoon’ the body. Capes are still important as well as the key accessories of large wrap scarves, leg warmers and chunky socks.
Extremes are seen in knit design from the neat and elegant to the grungy and worn out. Different scales of fairisle, motifs, stripes and checks are used together to create the ‘untraditional fairisle’.
The Spring/Summer 2014 season looks to two opposing directions, one heavenly and future facing, the other grounded and ancient in its appeal. We see a mix of delicate pastel lace designs, bold and beautiful stripes and inspiring colour blended stripes, rustic textures and handcrafted artisan crochet. We see inspiration taken from Moorish tile art, Antique floral lace patterns and geographical patterning that can be found in rock formations. Rowan is showcasing three stories to reflect these major trends: Clarity, Legacy and Essentials.
The new season is a season of contrasts - contrasts between the natural environment and the latest technological advances.
Inspirations for Spring 2013 are pulled from the fragility of blossoms and the fresh new growth that the sun encourages to the abundance of the summer flowers that follow.
As a bold contrast, the digital age inspires an optimistic approach to life as we look forward to the future and the promises that new technology can bring. Pixilated pattern, optical geometrics and sharp modern graphics combine to inspire with the work of the Bauhaus and artists such as Paul Klee, Piet Mondrian and Josef Albers.
2013 is the perfect season for Rowan as knitwear sits centre stage of the fashion world creating the drama for the season head. Many of the catwalk designers have drawn inspiration for their collections from historic references such as the Baroque. Fashion is also looking to the handicraft textiles of Eastern Europe and the nomadic lifestyle.
Rowan is promoting two main stories to reflect the major trends for winter WILDERNESS and CRAFTWORK, to contrast with the two main stories, the ESSENTIALS collection of the magazine will concentrate on the key shapes of the season.
