September is one of the most stylish times of the year, with the Paris, London, New York and Milan Fashion Weeks showcasing what we can expect for spring-summer 2013.
But you needn't wait till then really, as there's inspiration to be had from these runway collections right now.
To open their Milan show yesterday, Giorgio Armani's younger fashion line, Emporio Armani, presented a range of different fabrics and textures, including plenty of knitted items.
Teenage models strutted down the runway in a combination of ballerina flats, pastel silk shorts and dainty leather driving gloves.
As well as these lighter fabrics, Armani's collection featured a great deal of layering, using fluid knitwear to contrast against the silk tops and jackets, on top of soft cotton trousers with gathered material around the ankles.
Summing up his collection, the designer wrote in his show notes that it would be "clean" fashion, which he defined as "a way of being and expressing yourself that is simple and natural, never too affected".
Natural colours with hints of opaque gold and bronze were used to create an ethereal yet earthy feel to the collection, with knitwear taking centre stage in a series of merino jackets and dresses.
Shape-wise it was all about jackets with small shoulders and barely-there waists, each combined with short skirts or straight-cut trousers to create a contemporary and youthful look.
Accessories were a popular addition to the model's distinctive ensembles, with bucket bags and oversized handbags making numerous appearances.
Some of the models also wore extra large, light silk scarves tied at the neck using half-moon clasps, giving the Armani show a timeless appeal for women of all ages.
