Wool Week 2012 is a huge event in the calendar of knitters, manufacturers and the textiles sector, but there are so many other industries which rely on natural fibres.
This includes UK carpet traders, who create and sell woollen flooring for our homes.
Carpet Foundation chief executive officer Andrew Stanbridge, who is coordinating the Campaign for Wool activities on behalf of the UK carpet industry, explained that wool is the material of choice for carpets, due to its resilient nature and combination of natural strength and comfort.
"Wool has been used for centuries in carpet manufacturing and is still recognised as the best fibre for use in carpet," Mr Stanbridge said.
The UK carpet industry is backing the Campaign for Wool, as it makes up 75 per cent of all British wool use and will be designing and producing point of sale material exclusively for this month's event.
These specialist carpets will be available in 2,000 retailers across the country, as the industry works in tandem with the campaign to hammer home the importance of British wool and its luxurious feel under foot.
The annual highlight of The Campaign for Wool is Wool Week, which takes place between October 15th and 21st across the country, and focuses on the amazing capabilities of the world's most natural and versatile fibre.
This year's celebration kicks off with London's Harvey Nichols department store receiving a woolly makeover, leaving it wrapped in British wool.
Leading brands and retailers are holding their own exhibitions, stunts, shows and events, including golfing and knitwear legends Lyle & Scott, who are showing their support for the week with a woollen golf extravaganza.
Outside their store on Covent Garden Piazza from October 18th to 21st people can try putting on a golf course made entirely of wool, with oversized sheep obstacles and prizes to be won throughout the competition
