Crocheted swimwear is big news this summer

Holiday season has begun and if you are like us, you will no doubt be considering whether you can wear last year's favourite clothes, or need to invest in something new.

The issue with seasonal pieces is you might not have worn them for a whole year. We all know that feeling of being excited about wearing a beloved sun dress or bikini, only to get it out of the drawer to find it is past its best, or is a bit outdated.

So, if this sounds like you, the next question is where to search for the latest looks?

With so many retailers out there, it can be difficult to work out what is in, so sometimes it pays to check out what the celebs are wearing. After all, they are not short on cash and have stylists at their fingertips whose job it is to make them look good.

TV presenter Abbey Clancy was recently pictured on holiday in LA rocking a white crochet bikini. While you may not have been blessed with her model proportions, if you get a trend right, it can do wonders for you, no matter what your physique.

Crochet is big news this summer and the footballer's wife had certainly nailed the look, as she was pictured looking effortlessly stylish on a sun-lounger in a white two-piece with side ties.

If you were in any doubt over the credentials of crochet, you only have to look at a recent picture of swimsuit model Jessica Gomes in a yellow crochet bikini to see how popular it has become.

Melissa Adair, spokeswoman for US department store Dillard's, was quoted by the Huston Chronicle as saying "lace, crochet and fringe are trending in both sportswear and swimwear".

So, if you fancy getting in on the trend, but are not brave enough to wear a bikini in that style, then why not try your hand at our crochet yarn patterns?

There is a gorgeous shrug in particular that could provide you with the perfect cover-up when the sun starts to go down.
