Kate Hudson shows off A-list knitwear in New York

Anyone who enjoys knitting will know that a range of different style garments can be created, from casual jumpers and cardigans to elegant dresses.

However, it's not every day that you see the latter shown off by an A-list celebrity on a red carpet. That's just what happened this week though, when Kate Hudson appeared at a screening of her new film The Reluctant Fundamentalist at New York City's Tribeca Film Festival.

Posing for waiting photographers, she looked fashionable, ideally dressed for the cool weather and age-appropriate for a young mum in a white cable knit dress.

The stunning creation had a diamond pattern in alternating panels with the cable and each one was adorned with sewn-on sparkly embellishments. It had sleeves and reached to mid-calf, capitalising on this season's trend for all things midi.

As if that were not enough fashion hits, the dress was also pencil-shaped at the hips to show off Kate's curves without being too revealing.

The neckline was a 1960s-style roll-neck and it was perfect given that the nights are still a little bit cool at present. It also negated the need for a chunky necklace, as everything on her body really spoke for itself.

However, she did carry a tiny clutch bag for all her bits and pieces.

We were really pleased to see someone as famous as Kate shun the usual trend for ballgowns and tulle and go for something really individual, so why not emulate her at your next formal event, even if it's not quite a red carpet?

It's easier than you think to create something this beautiful as long as you've got the right wool and a good pattern - fortunately we have both waiting for you at Rowan!

Our Aaren knitting pattern will create a dress much like Kate's and it can also be adorned with gems for some extra sparkle.
