Rihanna dons crochet skirt in St Tropez

As celebrities go, Rihanna is not noted for being particularly modest, therefore her cool cover up in St Tropez is sure to surprise her fans.

The Rudeboy singer was spotted exploring the streets of St Tropez wearing a green leaf-print bikini, while on her lower half she covered up with a high-waisted white crochet skirt.

Her woollen pencil skirt featured a matching white underlay which tucked reached the top of her thigh, however the holey fabric continued almost down to her knees.

Rihanna's chic skirt makes quite a change from her usual penchant for underwear-sized shorts and really helped to flatter her trim figure, accentuating her waist and clinging to her curves.

She accessorised with bright red lipstick and gold hoop earrings and cuff bracelets, as well as an usual low-slung chain necklace, which reached down to her waist.

With a wicker handbag in her hand she was out enjoying being a tourist in the French town, while being accompanied by plenty of friends on her private yacht, which is believed to have cost upwards of £100,000 to hire for her vacation.

While her holiday might be centred around five-star luxury, her outfit is relatively simple to recreate.

The crochet skirt makes a stylish alternative to a sarong and can easily be worn in cold weather too if you pair it with some opaque tights.

To create your own similar piece you needn't crochet as it can be far quicker and more effective to knit a garment like this.

Using a garter eyelet stitch your skirt will get that chic loose-knit look, while also having plenty of give to ensure it stays up and remains figure hugging.

If you're not sure about the fit, remember it's relatively easy to incorporate a zip, buttons or even some handy belt hooks around the waist.
