Saltburn yarnbombers stay a 'tight-knit secret'

Yarnbombers are the superheroes of the craft world, meaning they will often go to huge lengths to keep their identities a closely guarded secret.

The knitting community in Saltburn is making sure to protect its yarnbombers, after their recent wool figure of naked Prince Harry put them on the map.

Their woollen doll, which was seen protecting its modesty, much like Prince Harry did as he was photographed naked in Las Vegas recently, has triggered national interest in the group, however they told the Northern Echo that they are keen to remain anonymous.

The knitters, who call themselves Darn Crazy, first rose to fame thanks to a 50ft wool scarf celebrating the Olympics which appeared on Saltburn Pier in March.

Angela Morton, of Saltburn, who runs the Ripping Yarns wool shop, told the newspaper that while she knew some of their identities they were a well-kept secret.

She also discussed the Prince Harry figure, saying: "They must have started knitting as soon as they saw it on the news and thought, we will do this, because it was up by Sunday, which is fast."
