With the prospect of a friend or family member having a baby it can be difficult to resist the urge to get knitting.
From bonnets to romper suits and knitted teddies there are many things you can make as gifts for newborns.
Sharon Osbourne may have already witnessed the birth of her first grandchild last year but it seems that she is deferring her grandmotherly instincts onto Simon Cowell's baby by making it some handmade presents.
Rather than splashing out on a lavish gift she has chosen to use her crafty talents to make something instead.
The 60-year-old spoke to Yahoo! omg! at the X Factor press call this week ahead of her upcoming return to the judging panel.
She revealed that she has been busy knitting ahead of the arrival of Simon's baby.
"I am not buying I am hand making a little bonnet and booties! I am crocheting and knitting as we speak!" Sharon said.
While it is not clear how accomplished a knitter she is it will certainly be interesting to see what she has been making for the baby.
The music mogul went on to say that she hadn't gotten round to offering parenting advice to the first-time dad but planned to do so very soon.
She revealed: "I intend to [teach him], I shall tell him everything I've learned as a parent."
The X Factor returns to TV screens this Saturday on ITV1 and will see Sharon Osbourne make her much-anticipated return to the judging panel after six years hiatus.
She will be joined by Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh, and also a surprise fifth judge who has yet to be revealed to the public.
Sharon Osbourne agreed to rejoin the ITV talent show for its tenth series earlier this year after quitting at the end of series four back in 2007.
