In its third consecutive year, The Campaign for Wool is becoming a truly global movement, with activities around the world planned to celebrate Wool Week.
Speaking to Knitting Industry, Peter Ackroyd, executive of the organisation, said: "Since its inception The Campaign for Wool has captured the imagination of both the fashion and design industries and the public.
"With the support of his Royal Highness The Price of Wales, it has been instrumental in driving a new demand for wool, the world's favoured sustainable and versatile fibre, and I'm delighted to see its continued growth in 2012 and beyond."
Between October 15th and 21st the UK is hosting an array of events, including the unveiling of the world's largest ball of wool, using international fleece from Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
Wool is also being wrapped around London's Harvey Nichols store, while the Wool School program will see UK retailers pair up with top fashion universities to unveil 12 winning wool jumper designs to be sold nationwide.
The campaign is also bringing a Kennet barge loaded full of wool bales from each Commonwealth country to Saltaire, the traditional home of the UK weaving industry, where it will be carded, spun and woven to create a Commonwealth tweed.
But the action isn't just taking place on home soil as it began late September with yarn-bombing in New York before launching for the first time in France with a series of events, including encouraging new knitters to make "the ultimate wool scarf".
Norway is getting on board with the Campaign this week through seminars and exhibitions, while Korea has also begun its own Korean Wool Week, with events and a charity auction.
Japan and China will also be involved later this month, while November will see the Netherlands, Germany and Spain all hold their own unique Wool Week activities.
