Knitters in the US have been reminded that they can in fact carry their knitting needles on planes.
During the holiday season, many people choose to travel home or visit friends and family, likely incurring many hours of travelling.
For people wishing to journey by air, Lesley Carlin, from Trip Advisor, has reminded those in the US that they are more than welcome to use this time to finish off any last minute Christmas presents or simply lean back and relax while knitting in their seat.
Ms Carlin told the Post Gazette that "it's a great idea to take your knitting on a plane".
She went on to say that according to the Transportation Security Administration website "knitting needles are fine, as are scissors smaller than four inches.
Larger scissors are not allowed, nor is anything else with a blade (eg a circular thread cutter). Those items should be packed in checked baggage instead".
If you're concerned about getting your yarns tangled with the rest of your carry-on items, then it can be useful to carry a small ball or wrap it around a skein so that it's easy to unravel and use.
Keeping it in a separate plastic or paper bag is advisable so that it is protected from the other items you have with you and there is a lower risk that food and drinks will be spilt on your knitting.
Packing your knitting in your hand luggage ahead of a plane journey is a great way to pass the time, although it is always advisable to check the individual national and airline regulations to ensure that they allow you to take your needles and scissors on board.
It can also be advisable to keep your elbows in and try not to take up too much space, so as not to annoy fellow passengers.
