‘The Campaign for Wool’ is a five-year campaign designed to demonstrate wool’s natural, sustainable qualities and supreme versatility. HRH Prince of Wales is the patron of the campaign for its duration in a bid to encourage a more responsible and sustainable way of living; selecting wool as the fibre of choice, which naturally biodegrades over time and won’t end up in landfill.
Wool organisations from around the world have come together with woolgrowers, manufacturers, designers and retailers to show you just how diverse and adaptable wool is. Rowan has been at the forefront in supporting this important campaign by being involved in many initiatives during the Wool Week 2010 and 2011.
For 2012 we are supporting ‘The Campaign for Wool’ with an online collection of home-ware designed by the Rowan design team using our popular British Sheep Breeds yarns. Rowan was also involved in several exciting events during Wool Week including the ‘Clickety Click on the Clackety Clack’ train from London to Edinburgh and Rowan’s ‘Yorkshire Day’ held at the Rowan Mill.
Finally, Rowan have created this editorial ‘look book’ featuring young design talent from Nottingham Trent University. For the past three years Marie Wallin, Rowan Head Designer has set projects and ran teaching workshops for the 2nd year undergraduate students of the BA (Hons) Fashion Knitwear & Knitted Textiles course at Nottingham Trent University. For the Rowan Design Award 2012 the students were briefed on a project for Wool Week, using our wool rich yarns.
