Rowan is extremely excited to once again be involved in the Campaign for Wool and Love Wool UK in 2011. In support of the initiative, we will be holding a series of celebratory events and workshops throughout the UK.
Once more taking the centre stage throughout the campaign will be Rowan’s Purelife British Sheep Breeds yarns; Chunky, DK and Bouclé. These socially and ecologically responsible yarns aim to support the livelihoods of the British hill farmers who work our beautiful countryside. Shorn and blended from British sheep and spun into beautiful yarn at mills in our heartland of Yorkshire, the yarn is an annually renewable natural resource and, as such, has a low carbon footprint.
Each different breed used within the range demonstrates it’s own unique characteristics and qualities. For example, the fine, dense and semi lustrous nature of the Bluefaced Leicester wool makes a yarn which is soft to the touch and feels beautifully comfortable next to the skin, whereas the Shetland Moorit gives a fine wool perfect for shawls and the more delicate knitwear. This makes the British Sheep Breeds range the ideal vehicle to raise awareness of wool, whilst celebrating the type of exquisitely beautiful, timeless design synonymous with the Rowan design house.
